All in An August Afternoon
Rain was expected later, so this was a good opportunity to get outside and putter in the garden. I planted a Turtlehead plant in my shade garden. And it was about time! This spare Chelone had been in it’s pot for about a year.
My other Chelone occupies a sunny location. It is just starting to show it’s pink Turtlehead blossoms.
Saw this little guy just after that. Dropped my gloves to get some pics. Love how he posed for me. Maybe the Chipmunks are more plentiful this year. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2011/08/15/curious-about-the-chipmunk-population/?src=fb
I forgot what I was doing when I spotted the flash of white on dark wings.
I think I was looking for my Four O’Clock flowers. I’d like to see them open at 4 O’Clock! I rarely see them opened up at all. And I thought they were supposed to be fragrant. The plants are just starting to grow bigger now, so I really should try not to be so quick to judge them.
Thought the butterfly had vanished, but I found him again a little later at the Butterfly Bushes.
The last of my seedlings, 8 Painted Daisies, were finally in the ground. It’s been so long since I’ve had Painted Daisies in the garden. Perhaps I will have more success this time. Hopefully they will bloom next year. Went to put the empty tray in a pile of other trays… to be rinsed at some other time.
As I fumbled around with the stack, I found a snake under a tray. You can see how small he is compared to the 3 inch plant pots.
Decided to chop off some Hosta, so I’d have some to put in the shade garden. They look so much better in shade. As I was digging into the plant, this frog hopped out of the pond.
I snapped a few pics and then went back to hacking the Hosta. He hung around with me until he caught a bug. Maybe I stirred some up for him.
Rosy Glow Sedum is starting to bloom.
My last Condilla Daylily Flower.
The last of the Apple Tart Daylily blooms.
Gazania Daisies are staying with me this year. I’ve learned not to water them!
Perennial Geranium is on a rebloom.
All in an August afternoon!

Hello Chris, I came over from Blotanical this morning and am glad I did. Your critters are very well captured and you have such a variety in your garden. My tiny garden has baby garter snakes but the birds seem to get them every year. I never did get a frog though. Two turtles came by on two separate occasions, how they got there is the question. And my garden has Chipper the chipmunk who has residence in my garage. I bet you can gather, I like the critters too.

Adorable visitors (except for the snake!). Love that gazania and the rosy glow sedum is a lovely color as well.
Elephant's Eye says:
Do you know what sort of snake? He looks very much like our tabakrolletjies, that eat snails.
Will you join us for Wildflower Wednesday next month? The Gazania is mine, but I guess the turtlehead might be your wild flower.
I’m getting rather attached to this tangible textured paper you have on here. Inclined to run my fingers over it ;¬(0)

I am enjoying all the comments… Thanks everyone!
Elephant’s Eye, I will have to look into Wildflower Wednesday. I think the little snake is a Northern Brown Snake.

All the fauna interspersed with the flora is so fun. I only ever see white admiral butterflies when I go to Maine so maybe it’s a New England thing.
Sharie says:
Beautiful shots, Chris! Glad I was able to find you! We have nearly the same tastes in plants and I swear hubby and I were chasing around the same butterfly last weekend. We also have a pond and fearless frogs – amazing isn’t it, how they just sit there and look at you?
Happy gardening!
